After an ancient military satellite predicts an extinction-level event, the Alterian Empire is thrown into chaos. A team must be selected to land on the planet from which this destruction is predicted to begin, in order to collect data on the inhabitants which have not yet mastered interstellar travel. This planet, called Tera in the Alterian language, is known to its inhabitants as Earth.
