The story opens with a monologue from the protagonist, Gaze, who has been traveling for years in search of the "land of wealth." He finally discovers "the marker"—a map leading to the land of wealth. But Just as Gaze secures the map, he is intercepted by his recurring nemesis, Sapa. Sapa reveals that he was directly sent by the entity of "poverty" to ensure Gaze never reaches his destination.
