In the night, Ellen Hisme goes to school as normal, and her substitute teacher is there, as normal. But in light, her substitute teacher hasn't supposed to be there for years. Ellen doesn't question this, of course, it's how it's always been. But her classmates are leaving, and as night clashes with day, maybe her sub isn't as normal as she believed.
