The Afterlife would be nice and empty, with good souls moving up, and bad souls moving down... except for all the Mid Souls trapped behind the veil, working towards finding something better to do than waiting. Of course, who is there to guide them towards a purpose during their long, long afterlife, but Wake- the Winnower of Gray Gate. Like he's any good at this afterlife thing...
