In the land of Nyhun, the military reigns with xenophobic zeal. Even the officers responsible for maintaining the status quo live in fear of being found insufficiently eager in ferreting out foreign influence. Into this oppressed land enters a mysterious stranger in a rickety skyplane. Macky's quirky optimism belies her many scars and leads her quickly into a friendship with a bewildered young local and into conflict with the powers to whom her very presence is a threat.
