Work to Eat, Eat to Work is an autobiographical comic about the life of Jenna Van Der Laan as a part-time waitress and full-time art student. Playing on the idea that a waitress often has to hold her tongue to prevent backlash at customers who are "always right" but not always respectful or reasonable, this comic book overdramatizes some of the real-life events waitresses have to swallow in order to earn a living. We have to eat our words to keep our jobs to buy our lives.
